Top 5 Tuesday- Recommendations for Non-Readers

Happy Tuesday to all you beautiful people! It’s that time of the week: time for another Top 5 Tuesday hosted by the wonderful Shanah @ BionicBookworm! I’m about 80% excited for this week’s Top 5 Topic: Recommendations for non-readers. The other 20% is nervous, because THAT’S SO MUCH PRESSURE! What if a non-reader takes my recommendation, and ends up hating it, and never reads anything ever again?! And, perhaps just as important, how do I pick just five out of all the amazing books there are? All the same, I’m going to give this my best shot!

So, without further ado, my recommendations for non-readers!

For the Non-Poetry Reader- No Matter the Wreckage by Sarah Kay

Even if you’re an avid reader who’s just never really gotten into reading poetry, this one is for you. Sarah Kay’s No Matter the Wreckage is full of relatable poetry, without ever seeming cliche. If you’re new to reading in general, or just new to reading poetry, I would highly recommend this book.

For the Animal-Loving Non-Reader- Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

Hahahahahaha, yes I’m evil. My dad read this book to me when I was in first grade. It was the first book to ever make me cry, which made me realize books could be exciting and funny and sad and just an all-around emotional roller coaster. When I realized how much emotion could be contained in a few pages glued together, I also realized how much I could love books.

For the History-Loving Non-Reader- Number the Stars by Lois Lowry

Another emotional read, Number the Stars sees the Holocaust through the eyes of a child. It was my first introduction to historical fiction, and one of the first times I started to really understand the Holocaust and is a good read for any non-reader interested in the era.

For the Non- Children’s Book Reader-The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

It was so hard to choose just one Narnia book, but since I had to… I don’t know why it’s so important to me that people read Children’s books, but it is, so The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is the Narnia book I would recommend to non-readers. Iit’s a pretty quick and easy read, that’s also entertaining and exciting, with some pretty intense themes mixed in, making it perfect for children and adults alike. Plus, it had an awesome movie conversion a few years ago, so non-readers who watched the movie can get excited about the book.

For the Non-Fantasy Reader- Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Six of Crows is one of those books that I absolutely loved and just want everyone to read! With great world-building, fast-paced twists and turns, and characters you can fall in love with, I think this would be a perfect choice for anyone who claims to dislike reading!
