Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading.

The three W’s are:

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What are you planning on reading next?

Here we go; brace yourselves!

First up on the list is The Valiant by Lesley Livingston. This YA Fantasy finally showed up  yesterday (my Valentine’s Day present to myself). Since I’ve only just begun, I can’t really share anything more than Goodreads would tell you, but I have been waiting for this book for a long time, and I am so excited to dive into it. I’ll be posting my review either late this week, or early next week, and let you guys know what I think!

The second book I’ve just started is a book of poetry, With Paper for Feet. I’ve only read the first poem, but the synopsis says many of the poems are based in folk tales, using them to try to create new voices for those who have been historically voiceless, particularly for women, so I’m pretty excited to continue reading.  I’ve read three poetry books so far this year (all of the reviews have been written, but two of them are scheduled to be posted later), but I only really enjoyed one of them. I’m hoping that this collection will give me an even 50/50. The review for this book will be posted later this week or early next week.

What did you just finish reading?31338831

I’ve recently finished a YA Fantasy titled, Quest of the Kings. This book was only okay. You can read my full review here, but basically, I really didn’t like the main character, so I had a very hard time enjoying the book. The idea itself has a lot of potential, but, because of the main character, I’m still undecided about whether or not I’m going to continue with the series

320727711The other book I’ve recently finished was actually the one book of poetry I’ve really enjoyed so far this year. In Filthy LaborsLauren Schmidt discusses how humanity treats its own, and why we have such a hard time dealing with others. Through an exploration of her own dealings with family and others around her. I’ve already written the review for this book, but, because the publication date is a few months away. I’ve scheduled it to be published in a few weeks. But the short version is that it was an amazing collection, and if you
enjoy poetry at all, I would definitely look for this book.

What are you planning on reading next?31831180

Next on the list is Ensnared by Rita Stradling. The synopsis leads me to believe it’ll be a slightly more sci-fi retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It isn’t scheduled to be published until much later this year, but since the new Beauty and the Beast movie with Emma Watson will be coming out soon, it seems like an appropriate time to start reading this retelling.

Then after that will probably be Ballad of the Beanstalk by Amy McNulty. According to its synopsis, this story is a sort of prequel to the classic fairytale, “Jack and the Beanstalk.” In case you haven’t noticed, I have a thing for classic folk/fairytales being reworked, so I’m pretty excited to start reading this one.

Thanks for powering through my book-nerding! I’d love to hear which books you’ve finished, which ones you’re reading, or if there are any books you just cannot wait for! Let me know in the comments below!
