Top 5 Books I’d Give for Christmas!

Happy Tuesday everyone!! It’s time for another Top 5 Tuesday, hosted by Shanah, the brilliant Bionic Bookworm herself! This week’s Top 5 Tuesday is extra special, because it’s the last one of the year!

But, I have a bit of a confession to make. The actual topic this week is “Books I Want for Christmas,” but, like the terrible book lover I am, I actually don’t really enjoy getting books as gifts. It’s crazy, I know, but I’m always so picky about my books, and sometimes even if I’ve wanted a book for ages, it ends up sitting on my shelf because I just don’t feel like reading it. And then I feel bad because someone bought me a book they thought I’d love, and 8 months down the road, I still haven’t read it.

So, I’m gonna change it up just a little bit, and instead of listing five books I’d like to get for Christmas, I’m gonna share five books I’d buy other people for Christmas, even if they’re as picky as me!

So, without any further ado, here are the Top 5 books I’d want give for Christmas!

#5- A Favorite with a Fancy Cover

my lotr

Everyone who knows me knows I love Lord of the Rings, so last year for Christmas, my brother got me a gorgeous hardcover set with beautiful covers! It was hands down one of my favorite gifts that year! Even if someone owns a copy of their favorite book, you can almost never go wrong with getting them a fancy favorite!

#4- Go Old School

There’s just something about old books that book lovers just seem to love! A few years ago, my aunt and cousins got me five books for Christmas. None of them were books I’ve enjoyed, but probably wouldn’t have gone out and bought for myself (on the list was Treasure IslandThe Complete Works of Shakespeare, and Robin Hood and a few others). But, the editions they got me are a little older, so they look great on my shelves! And they’re not too expensive; you can get them at  used book store, or a lot of antique shops will have some good deals, as long as they aren’t special editions

#3- No Matter the Wreckage by Sarah Kay

No Matter the Wreckage

This is a great poetry collection for poetry newbies and experts alike. Whether you have a friend who’s just starting their poetry collection, or one who’s a poetry pro, this collection is open, vulnerable, and easy to connect to. It’s usually the first one out of my mouth whenever anyone asks me for a poetry recommendation.

#2- Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Six of Crows

I was a little late to this bandwagon, but I am so glad I read Six of Crows this year. Everyone can fall in love with all at least one of the characters in this series. It’s an incredible, diverse read with perfect pacing that I can’t recommend highly enough!

#1- The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

The Bear and the Nightingale

Tied with Six of Crows for the honor of my favorite 2017 read, The Bear and the Nightingale is one I’d be happy to give to any fantasy fan! It’s absolutely enchanting, and it’s medieval Russian setting makes for a great winter read!

Thanks for reading, and don’t forget to check out Shanah’s Top 5 Tuesday post!

  2. No! You don’t like getting books as gift? This is horrible! We can’t be friends anymore! LoL Kidding of course. You had a very interesting list mixing recent and classicals.

  3. Awe!!! I love that you changed this to books that you would GIVE for Christmas!! There are a few people I buy for who’s only request is that I pick out new books for them. This year I picked up Armada by Ernest Cline and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss for my brother in law. For my Mother in law I chose Outlander 🙂
Thanks so much for participating in 2017 – hope to see you in 2018! Merry Christmas!
