Your Favorite Music Tag

Hi there everyone! Hope you’re all having wonderful Wednesdays! The awesome Lauren @ Books Are Only the Beginning tagged me for the Your Favorite Music Tag. Obviously, I’ll post the tag rules in a second, but I want to add two rules of my own first. Rule #1: Under no circumstances do we judge Ryann for her musical tastes. I tried to tone it back a little for you guys, but some of this is still a little out there. Rule #2: If you love any of these songs, you have to let me know so I don’t feel like too much of a nerd!

Now that that’s out of the way, on to the tag!

The Rules:

  • Tag the creator  (Debbie @ Debbie’s Library) and the one who tagged you
  • Pick 5 songs (or more) that you just have to listen whenever they are played
  • Pick the books/characters you think fit that song the best, and explain why you pick this book/character for this song
  • Tag some friends!

My Songs:

Songbird by Haroula Rose – Tamlin from A Court of Mist and Fury

This song makes me think of how Tamlin saw Feyre at the end of ACOTAR / beinning of ACOMAF. He saw her as someone fragile who he needed to keep safe, and that’s what ended up making Feyre leave. Like the little bird in this song.

The Voice by Celtic Women – Vasya from The Bear and the Nightingale

Vasya is a character where there is more than what there seems to be. (IF YOU HAVEN’T READ IT, THERE’S A BIT OF A SPOILER AHEAD) It’s implied that she is more than just human, but is also a part of nature herself. Which is why she reminds me of the person in this song, because it seems like they’re a force of nature, too.

Slipping from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog – Kaz from Six of Crows

THIS SONG IS LITERALLY ABOUT HOW AWFUL SOCIETY IS AND HOW THERE’S NO CLEANING IT UP, SO YOU MIGHT AS WELL MAKE HELL AND TRY TO RULE THE ASHES. If that doesn’t sound like our Bastard of the Barrel, I don’t know what does.

Wunderkind by Alanis Morissette – Lynet from Girls Made of Snow and Glass

It took a lot of self-control for me not to list a Narnian character, but I felt like that would have been cheating. But it reminds me of Lynet because she also steps into the world and learns about magic. At first, it’s pretty much out of naivete, but later, she realizes she’s brave enough and smart enough to handle it. Like the speaker in this song.

The Circle by Blackmore’s Night – The Soul Catcher from A Torch Against the Night

Yes, I know. I listen to some weird music. I’ve come to terms with this. But this song sounds like it’s all from the point of view of someone who existed outside of our time and has had to watch the world and its people go through their ups and downs, so it reminds me of the Soul Catcher and why she would be so eager to find someone to take over her job.

Nil Se’n La by Celtic Women – Kvothe from The Name of the Wind

So, in this song, the lady walks up to this house and is like, “I’ll play you some cool jams if you’ll let me sleep here.” And Kvothe literally does that several times in these two books.

Normally I would tag people, but as I’m writing this, I’m a little tired and hungry, so I’m just gonna say, if this sounds interesting to you, or if you think my taste in music is awful, or you just have polar opposite tastes than me, go ahead and give this tag a go!

Thanks for reading! And possibly listening!

What do you think? Are my music choices a little out there? Do you agree with me in my choices? Do any of these songs remind you of a different character? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Unfortunately I don’t know any of these books yet 😭 I’M SORRY. But I’m glad you shared these because now I have some new reading to try out soon 😀
Great tag and answers. Loved seeing Dr Horrible here hahaha (it’s been years since I watched it but this was the one song I did recognize, and of course Narnia’s OST) I do love celtic music too, though, so yay!
And your music taste is not weird, it’s quite neat actually!

  2. Dr. Horrible AND Celtic Women?! Woman, why were you afraid of people not liking your musical tastes?! Also, I now wish I’d thought to embed the videos directly instead of just using gifs. I love it! Thank you for taking the time to do it 🙂

    • Hahaha I listen to Dr. Horrible way more than I should! And when I wrote the intro, I had a whole different set of songs in my head, but as I was going through my music library, I was like, “Wait a minute…” I almost did, like, 15 songs, but I thought that might have been a bit much. 😀
