Goodreads Book Tag!

So, the awesome Kayla tagged me in this book tag, like, two weeks ago, but I got kind of wrapped up in some other things (read: I got sick and was caught reading too much) and I am just now getting around to it. Kayla has an awesome book blog, you guys should definitely check it out!! But I’m super excited for this tag, so let’s get to it!

What was the last book you marked as “read?”

28260587

Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas. The fifth book in the Throne of Glass series. And it was AMAZING!! You can read my full review here, but, fair warning, there are unmarked spoilers for the rest of the series.

What are you currently reading?

Two books: #1 is

27190613

And I Darken by Kiersten White. I’m only, like, four chapters in, but I like it so far. I bought it from Amazon because one of my reader friends highly recommended it, and the cover is SO PRETTY! I hope it’s good, because I used one of my gift cards from Christmas to pre-order the next one in the series, so we’ll see how it goes!

And book #2 is:

31831180

Ensnared by Rita Stradling. I got an ARC of this one from NetGalley and I’m about halfway through it. It’s sort of like a near-future Beauty and the Beast (no insta-love has been encountered thus far). I don’t think it’ll be my next favorite, but I am really enjoying it so far.

What was the last book you marked as TBR?

33376691

The Last Shadow Gate by Michael W. Garza. I want to read it because it’s set in upstate New York, which happens to be where I live.

What book do you plan to read next?

26156203

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye. This was another book that was recommended to me by a friend, and it has been sitting on my TBR shelf for a few months now. She keeps asking me if I’ve read it yet, so I know I have to start it soon!

Do you use the star rating system?

I do, both here on my blog and on Goodreads. It lets me look for books I loved at a quick glance, and gives other people my very general opinion about a book so they don’t have to read a whole review if they’re running short on time.

Are you doing the 2017 Reading Challenge?

Of course!

3.19.17 reading challenge.png

I’m reading fewer books than usual this year, because I just graduated, and I was a little nervous about the job hunt/grad school possibilities, so I took it easy on myself. Plus, as you can see, I’m a little behind. I caught the flu at the very beginning of March, and it took me out of the reading (and everything else) game for about a week. But, I’m slowly catching up.

Do you have a wishlist?

Not on Goodreads, but I absolutely have one on Amazon. I have a little over 50 books on said wishlist. Every time I go to buy one from my list, I get sucked in by another amazing book and it just becomes a very vicious cycle.

What book do you plan to buy next?

So many choices! It kind of depends on my mood, but probably either Caraval by Stephanie Garner or Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones. I’ve hear a lot of good things about Caraval and I’m hoping it’s not just hype. And I know Wintersong is a sort of Beaty and the Beast/Labrynth mashup, and I love both of those movies, so I’ve been curious about this book for a while. But, given the number of books on my wishlist, I could pick any one of about 50 books!

Do you have any favorite quotes? Share a few.

I have a few. Pretty much any of the lines from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader that go along the lines of “We cannot now refuse the adventure that is set before us,” because it reminds me that some of the things that I encounter in life are unavoidable, but I can choose whether to look at them with fear or with a sense of wonder and adventure. And, from Lord of the Rings: “From the ashes, a fire shall be woken…” because it reminds me that even when I am feeling my lowest, I can still comes back to be someone bright and powerful. The line is from a bigger poem/prophecy thing for Aragorn, and that line is actually one of the tattoos that I want (right along my collarbone).

Who are your favourite authors?

Just in case it wasn’t clear yet, C.S. Lewis is at the top of that list, with J.R.R. Tolkien following in a close second (sometimes they flip-flop). I also love Sarah J. Maas (granted, I’ve only read the Throne of Glass series), Patrick Rothfuss (The Kingkiller Chronicles), and I’ve enjoyed what little I have read of Raymond Feist. Yeah, I may have a slight bias toward fantasy series…

Have you joined any groups?

I think I’m a part of two groups? But I’m clearly not very active in either one.

  1. Thanks so much for the tag! I also recently downloaded Ensnared. I liked Rita Stradling’s Rex series, so I’m hoping this is just as enjoyable. I’m also planning on reading The Crown’s Game soon. I’ve had the book on my shelf for what seems like forever. Great answers. 🙂

  2. I was going to leave you a link to the one I posted back in October but after going back and looking at it I think I want to do it again. I might not get to it right away because of course I am still behind but I will do it.
